FOOD FESTIVALS & FAIRS
BRIEF BACKGROUND
It’s been fourteen years since the first Chocolate International Festival in Óbidos stopped that village and that haven’t change. In fact, this Festival is continuously growing year after year. This event is a thematic one – chocolate is the main hero. This year all the fair is working around the chocolate and “Environment” themes; last year was “Love” and other novelties like chocolate massage. The event attracts nearly 150 000 visitors, from all ages. The festival’s goal is to drive people to a different yet fantastic experience - the chocolate experience. Through exhaustive decorating and detailing venues, this long lasting festival, brings us a wide variety of chocolate, displayed in the most unusual ways potentiating its value and applications. Óbidos is a small medieval village and the festival is held inside the Castle’s walls where there are plenty activities targeting all ages, from interactive cooking (shows where all the preparation and confection of the chocolate is shown), you can even learn how to make it yourself in chocolate workshops hosted by renowned chefs. This festival didn’t set aside other cultural medieval associated arts, like theatres, music shows, sculptures (made of chocolate) and lots of entertainment. The festival offers all kinds of stand shops, selling all sorts of chocolate marketing products such as, dark and milk chocolate, chocolate with dry fruits and coconut, hot chocolates, fresh fruits dipped in chocolate and, of course, the famous “Ginginha de Óbidos” that is served in miniature cup made of…chocolate!
